What is the best day to publish a press release?
It’s one of the oldest and most debated issues in PR: when should you publish your press release to get the highest reach?
Chances are there’s not an ultimate answer, as many variables can play havoc with it. Nonetheless, we’re here to add our 2 cents.
We were able to gather in the last year some interesting data to show a trend in the market. We aggregated all the press releases published on pr.co since April 2013. We’re talking about dozens and dozens of thousands of press releases. We divided them by day of the week to get the following results:

Tuesdays and Thursdays are the busiest days with 18% of press releases published. The days in the middle of the week, Tue-Wed-Thu, cover 53% of all the press releases.
Whoever said “PR doesn’t happen on Mondays” was probably wrong, because 16% of our press releases were published on Mondays. We would rather say that PR doesn’t happen on Sundays.
Here you can see a different representation of the same chart:

Weekends are not exactly popular for PR professionals. Less than 1 out of 5 press releases is published on Saturdays or Sundays. On the other hand, we may guess that the inboxes of journalists are likely to be less crowded on weekends.
